AJAX DOWNS MONDAY JUNE 28, 2021 - Brother and sister Samantha and Mitch Manuel are off to a 'flyin' start as first-time Quarter Horse owners and hope their filly SHE'S A FLYIN BOK can advance to the $50,000 final of the Princess Derby with a good run in one of two Trials at Ajax Downs, June 30. The final will be run July 14 with the 10 fastest qualifiers.
The Princess Derby Trials headline the third day of the 2021 Ajax Downs Quarter Horse racing season. Post time for the first race is 1:30 p.m. and the Trials are races 3 and 4.
The Manuel siblings, both in their mid 20s, became instant horse owners when their mother Carol McIntyre and her husband Dave from Hampton, ON bought them She's a Flying Bok at the horse race in Oklahoma this past January for $9,000 (US). The grey 3-year-old made her Ajax Downs debut on June 16 and soared to a one-length win under jockey Rachael Isaacs, who will be on the filly from post 4 in the first Trial.
The second Trial attracted the 2020 High Point 2-year-old filly STREAKINLILWAGON who won the prestigious Alex Picov Memorial Futurity last fall and won four of five races last year. Owned and bred by Jason Pascoe and partner Bryanne Langford's GFR Equine Services, Streakinlilwagon comes off a win at Remington Park in Oklahoma on April 30. Helen Vanek, who won four races last week at Ajax Downs, is on board. They will start from post six with main rival Ah Candyland, third in the Picov Futurity, breaking from post 1.
